Oak Lawn is a village in Cook County, Illinois.
Oak Lawn is a suburb of Chicago, located 15 minutes southwest of Chicago. Oak Lawn has approximately 57,000 residents
and shares borders with the city in two areas, but is surrounded mostly by other suburbs independent of Chicago.
Oak Lawn is a community with a distinctive "home town" atmosphere. It is a place where people really
get to know their neighbors. The well-kept residential streets demonstrate the pride people
take in their neighborhoods. Oak Lawn is home to superb healthcare facilities and providers,
quality public and private schools and churches of all denominations. The village's variety
of retailers attract shoppers from throughout the Chicagoland area. There is a beautiful
public library and an active park district that provides residents with a variety of parks,
a walking trail, a public pool, several playgrounds and the Stony Creek Golf Course.
Oak Lawn offers its residents excellent schools, strong Park District programs, excellent youth-oriented
athletic and leisure programs, the Children's Museum of Oak Lawn and a highly rated Fire and Police department.
Starting in 2002, downtown Oak Lawn (95th Street between Tulley and 55th Court) became the target of a massive redevelopment program; properties on the north and south sides of 95th Street were demolished. Eventually several square blocks were leveled, making room for several multistory, high-end condominium complexes with retail space on the main floors. Part of the project was the expansion of the Metra commuter train station that houses a retail/office center and a new children's museum.
