Frankfort is a village in Will County, Illinois with a small
section of it in Cook County. Frankfort has approximately 17,500
residents and ranks as the 36th fastest growing suburb in the United States.
Frankfort offers a small town character while moving into the future. Residents enjoy an
historic downtown district and thriving commercial and industrial corridor.
From its historic downtown district to the Prairie-style architecture of many homes and
commercial buildings, heritage and history have been carefully preserved.
William Rice, the first non-native settler, made a permanent settlement in Frankfort in 1831.
While the first pioneers, coming mainly from the New England Colonies, were mostly of
English and Scottish descent, German settlers made the Village of Frankfort a reality.
Later in the 1840's German Settlers migrated from the Pennsylvania area to Frankfort.
Today, Frankfort is thriving and has become known as the "Jewel of the South Suburbs".
This distinction was recently recognized with the Southland's Reader's Choice award for
"Best Community" in 2003. Experiencing rapid growth, attracting new residents,
commercial and industrial businesses, Frankfort has been identified as a premier
community in Will County, one of the fastest growing counties in Illinois.
